This month, we are featuring Ryan Louie. Ryan is a Financial Advisor and has been with Ford for 11 years. In addition to meeting with his clients and the day to day responsibilities of being a Financial Advisor, he’s also a Microsoft Excel genius (yes, really!). Any time one of us needs help, he’s our go-to!
Tell us how you got started in this industry?
I did an internship while in college during my junior year at First Union Securities. I got hired on to work with the same advisor after graduating in 2002. Shortly after graduating, I got licensed to be an advisor. I originally worked on the client side for a few years and then worked with an advisor who handled retirement plans before coming to Ford Financial Group in 2006.
What is the best part of your job?
While I love the investment side and the research, the piece of the job that is most enjoyable is meeting with and helping clients. Client meetings allow me to catch up with what has been going on in their lives. I get to hear about their families, trips that they have been on and anything else new going on. It’s also the time in which I can help them the most because it’s often that through our conversations that we have in a meeting that I’m able to add or give additional advice.
If you weren’t a Financial Advisor, what do you think you’d be doing?
It’s almost impossible for me to even guess where I would be because I have been in this field my entire career. While I was in college my goal was always to get my MBA, so I suppose that in a different life I would have gotten my MBA and went into a field that it was useful for.
Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
With two young kids we spend a lot of time in extracurricular activities with them. Currently, the kids are involved in swimming, taekwondo, and tennis. During my free time I like to play as much tennis as possible and travel with my wife/family to find new places to eat.
